The North of the River Recreation and Park District
(NOR) is recruiting coaches, referees and scorekeepers
for the 2009 Afterschool Basketball Program. The season
runs between January 2009 through March 2009. Coaches
work 4-1/2 to 9 hours per week and are paid $8.50 per
hour. Must be 16 years of age or older and have reliable
transportation. Referees earn $12.35 per hour and
scorekeepers earn $8.00 per hour. The schedule does
conflict with high school sports. Apply at the NOR
office at 405 Galaxy Drive (across from North High
School), contact the Personnel Office at 392-2000 or
download an Employment Application from the NOR website
at www.norfun.org. Apply early. Interviews start soon.
COLLEGE PREPARATION WORKSHOP: tomorrow, November 20,
after school, representatives from CSUB will conduct a
workshop for all students. Seniors will be working in
their CSU and UC applications and will receive personal
statement tips. Freshmen through juniors will be
covering the A-G college readiness requirements, making
a four year course plan and making high school count
towards college preparation. The workshop will be held
in the library from 3:30 pm until 4:15 pm. It is a free
workshop and all students are invited. Those needing bus
transportation may take the 5:15 pm bus which leaves
from the bus loading zone. See Mr. Coulter in the
counseling office from more information
JUNIORS & SENIORS: The Armed Services Vocational
Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be given to interested
juniors & seniors who have not taken the ASVAB on
Wednesday, November 26, in De Mello Hall starting at
8:25 am. The ASVAB test is designed to help students
learn more about themselves and the world of work, to
identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations,
and develop an effective strategy to realize their
goals. Also, it is the test everyone needs to take
before entering any branch of the military. This is a
useful tool even if a student doesn’t plan to join the
military as civilian careers are explored, too. If you
would like to take the ASVAB, you must register by
Monday, November 24, in the Counselors’ Office. If you
have any questions, please see your counselor.
BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE ADMISSION & ORIENTATION DAY: Seniors

Day for Tuesday, December 2, but you must sign up to
participate. Information on the BC Assesment and how to
