Free Whooping Cough shots offered at KHSD on Monday
Free immunization shots for Pertussis (Whooping Cough) will be provided on Monday, Sept. 26, , during a clinic to be held from 9 am to 2 pm at the Kern High School District’s administrative offices, 5801 Sundale Ave.
The so-called “T-dap” shots (Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis) will be given free to any child, student or adult who completes the required consent and eligibility forms. English and Spanish versions of the Consent and Eligibility forms can be accessed at the KHSD’s website, www.kernhigh.org . Links to the Eligibility and Consent forms are also provided below. Students not accompanied by an adult can be vaccinated if the forms are completed and signed in advance by a parent or guardian.
The clinic is being offered in response to a newly enacted state law that required all students 7th thru 12th grade to be immunized for Whooping Cough prior to Sept. 22. Students who have not provided proof of immunization for Whooping Cough are being excluded from school until the required proof is provided.
More than 98 percent of the KHSD’s more than 37,000 students have provided proof of a T-dap vaccination. Still, more than 500 were being excluded from school as of Friday, Sept. 23. “Even one student being excluded from school because of T-dap is one too many,” said KHSD District Nurse Amy Greene.
Forms needed to get the free shots can be accessed at the KHSD’s webpage. Links to the forms follow:
